Praise on Ma Ying-jeou’s Comments on Cross Strait Peaceful Reunification

On May 14, 2015, lucky star shone upon China. The country of Dragon the country of Elephant had a dance together. Chinese President Xi and Indian Prime Minister Modi met at Xi’an, China, to further promote the China-India tie towards a close partnership.

On the same day, workshop “Cross Strait Relations Review and Expectation” hosted by Foundation on Asia-Pacific Peace Studies and commissioned by Taiwan Mainland Affairs Council, was hold. During the workshop and when meeting the gusts, Ma Ying-jeou for two times quoted the opening verse of Three Kingdoms that “Here begins our tale. The empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide” to express he common expectation for cross strait peaceful development.

We also noticed on May 14, 2015, there is a dramatic news “Obama Attended the Gulf Six Countries Summit; Four Countries Heads Were Absent – Gulf Countries No Longer Get Well Along With U.S.A”.
Good rain knows its time right and quotation of verse is just in time. It is the positive energy for the cross strait to return to the peaceful way, for which we sincerely appreciate.

History tells us the “the empire, long divided, must unite; long united, must divide”. Five thousand years of Chinese history shows that in Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the mainland was divided into different states, until 221 BC when the Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of Qin dynasty, defeated and reunified the six states; but during the ruling of Qin Er Shi, the son of Qin Shi Huang, he led a cruel, luxurious and pornographic life, ignored the state affairs and listened to eunuchs, which finally result to the collapse of the Xia Dynasty; in Zhou dynasty, the land was divided into three kingdoms who fight for their own ruler, and finally Si Marui reunified the country. The alternation of division and unifications constitutes the general trend.

Since ancient times, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China. Due to the weakness and corruption of Qin government, Japan launched the Sino-Japanese War in 1894. On April 17, 1895, the humiliating Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed and Taiwan was separated to Japan. Since then Taiwan became a Japanese colony and started the 50 years Japanese occupation.

Refusing to be the conquered slave, to maintain the dignity and unification of the Chinese nation and restore the lost land, Taiwan people conducted long-term and indomitable struggle with Japanese invaders until the land was restored in 1945.

However, the cross-strait didn’t achieve agreement in terms of management and constitutional system, plus the interference by America who wants to hold back the rapid rising of China, the expectation of cross strait peaceful reunification is not realized up to now.
Though Taiwan is not actually reunified, the historical affection is inseparable and the mainland has been caring about Taiwan. Recently, during meeting with Taiwan businessmen, Premier Li Keqiang and CPPCC Chairman Yu Zhengsheng clearly expressed that the mainland policy on supporting Taiwan enterprises remains unchanged.

Waiting is the weights for success. After the pain from the humiliating lost of sovereignty by Qing government, the birth of new China undoubtedly composed a new chapter to history which has stunned the world. The new leadership group of Central government, President Xi as the representative, works closely around the mainline of “Reform and Development” to develop the economy internally,  externally adhere to the road of peaceful development reveals a prosperous, strong, democratic and harmonious China in front of the world. The nowadays China is no longer the “Sick man of East Asia” hundred years ago. It is a large country with total GDP ranking at the second and general strength at No.1 in the world. Its international influence is continuously improving, with economy, politics, finance and military at positions that cannot be underestimated in the world. We are on the way of realizing two “hundred years” ideals and striving ahead towards the objective of “Concentrate Positive Energy and Realize the Chinese Dream” put forward by President Xi.

We see that the One Road and One Belt is forging ahead strongly. China-India, China-Brazil, China-Russia and China-Kazakhstan shows the development of radiation pattern; AIIB made allies break away from America; four states heads were absent on the Gulf Six Countries Summit; Australia uses Chinese as the second language….Ma Ying-jeou is willed at maintaining core value and carrying out new situation. He said “I will act well whatever stage I am offered with”. He will not stand by to the large stage of rising Chinese nations.

Those who suit their actions to the times are wise! Ma Ying-jeou’s action is appreciated.
